A variety of tasks pushed me to learn on the job. I was not a journalism major, but I felt I picked up skills for interviewing, note taking, researching, pitching, and transcribing.
What I wish was different
I wish some interviewing techniques could’ve been taught from the internship formally.
Advice
Depending on your schedule, take on as much assignments as you can that you can realistically finish in a day. That way, the assignments that take multiple days can be done without pressure (esp for fact checking assignments where sources don’t pick up the phone).
