Working in a law firm has opened my eyes about the many opportunities I can use with my degree after college. When coming to school I came in as a mechanical engineering. When I took this offer at Cleary Gottlieb I worked with the litigation team in which I had to search and wipe hard drives of many clients the law firm had. The people who worked here was so friendly and helpful. At first, I was scared because I was a freshman and believed I didn't have the knowledge but they helped me understand what they actually do.
What I wish was different
I wished I reached out to more people and learned about the different department in a law firm. I was assigned to the litiguation team so I only reached out to them and not other departments to learn more about what they do.
Advice
Dont let your major burden you. Many people at the law firm I worked at came in as a mechanical engineer or graduated with other majors but now works at a law firm. You may think that there will be no job out there for you if you dont become a doctor, lawyer, or engineer but there are many. Reach out to people who are willing to help you. Expand you many and WANT to learn more.
