Clearwater Paper Corporation

Process Engineer Intern

May - August 2023 • Lewiston, ID

What I liked

My boss gave his interns full autonomy. We were treated the same as any full time employee. Got to work with people who had 20+ years experience and solve problems that actually effected the company.

What I wish was different

I wish the time scale between intern and full time employees was more in sync. While full time employees had years to complete project, interns only have several months. This led to some projects taking way longer than needed because full time employees thought they had more time to work on it.

Advice

Mentors always think the project they give you will take more time then it actually does. A project for them might take 3 months while it takes an intern 3 weeks. Go around and talk to people. See if there are more projects you can be involved in. You'll learn way more that way and have more to add to the resume as well.

Summer Hire

May - August 2019 • Lewiston, ID

What I liked

I liked the schedule that I worked. I worked four days on then four days off doing 12 hour shift work. It was a little exhausting, but I had a lot of time off very often. I also like the money I made doing that work because I got a lot of overtime and night differential which let me make even more money. The company also does this every summer and is very nice and helpful to the summer hires because they are trying to help them through college.

What I wish was different

I didn't really like having to work from 5 PM to 5 AM, but it is something you have to deal with when working 12 hour shifts of just doing shift work in general. My sleep schedule got a little messed up, but it helped me make a lot more money which was very nice.

Advice

I would strongly consider applying for this job if you live near Lewiston, ID because it gives you an opportunity to know what working for a large corporation is like, and you get to hear a lot of good stories an advice from people who have been working there for a very long time.
