City+Ventures

Human Resources Intern

May - August 2022 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

City+Ventures is a constantly changing and evolving company that has given me so much experience and exposure to all aspects of Human Resources. From the first day, I've felt welcomed, appreciated, and am doing meaningful work every single day. The culture of City+Ventures is one that supports everyone and their ideas. Everyone wants you to succeed, and they take the time to answer your questions and help in any way they can. In a short time, I've developed many new skills that I will use for the rest of my career.

Advice

Embrace the ever-changing environment on City+Ventures. It's given me experience in so many areas that companies who have a rigid structure aren't able to supply. It also makes my internship fun and exciting, and I come to City+Ventures every morning knowing my projects and work mean something to the development of the company.

What I liked

I love the welcome culture and atmosphere that fills the air at City + Ventures. The individuals that I have had the opportunity of working with have been amazing and their countless efforts to make sure I am supported have not gone unnoticed. As any new job starting out can be somewhat nerve-racking because there are so many unknowns but City +Ventures makes you feel at home once you start. I have also enjoyed how the staff listen to your areas of interest and make opportunities along with those areas a reality as I have been able to work on projects that I am passionate about.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. There are so many individuals at your disposal to help answer a question that you may not know, so for next time, you know, or you might be the individual that someone else goes to with that question. It's all about learning and soaking in information. Another tip that I would give out is to explore different avenues of your field just because you never know what will spark your interest until you try.

HR Intern

What I liked

I love the company culture. Everyone is so supportive and willing to help out when and where they can. This is my first internship, and I went in thinking upper management would likely never interact with me, or at least very rarely and this is not the case at all! We communicate daily and everyone has helped me in one way or another. I've been here for such a short time so far and have learned and experienced so much. It's a growing company so things are constantly evolving, and I get to see the growth happen right in front of me and learn from it as well.

Advice

If you're looking for a company with a rigid routine and set policies in place, this may not be the environment for you. There's always something new to learn and things changing within the company. I think this is a huge selling point, but I know not everyone feels comfortable in that kind of environment.

Data Analyst Intern

May - August 2021 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

I got to meet and interact with members of the staff as well as other interns. The person I was working under did a great job fielding questions about our project (internal auditing of transactions for the company) and was great to work with. CV will also assign you a mentor to check in with regularly. My mentor was a great resource during the internship to learn more about the company and the business world in general. Definitely keep in touch with your mentor throughout the internship. We also got to do some fun activities over the summer. We did some volunteer work, went on a golf outing, and got to have leadership meetings with some of the higher-ups at CV. It was a great opportunity to learn more about getting our careers started from very experienced and driven people.

What I wish was different

We worked on basically the same project for the whole internship (although we did get to tackle different stages of that project, which was nice). It might have been nice to see different aspects of CV, because they do have many different facets, so there is lots to learn.

Advice

Don't be afraid to introduce yourself to people. You can always spare a few minutes in your day to pause work to get to know other people (interns, managers, mentors, etc.). It's a very valuable experience. Ask plenty of questions. You'll expand your understanding more, which will help you complete your work better and will impress the people you work with and for.
