City of St. Petersburg

Pool Supervisor

April - August 2019 • St. Petersburg, FL

What I liked

This job was awesome. I loved being able to hire my own staff, be in charge of delegating tasks and improving the pool programming and of course, it's so much fun! Especially since it's always sunny and beautiful out.

What I wish was different

I wish there could have been more instructors to teach swim lessons. We were sometimes short-on-staff, but that's mostly due to people taking a week or less off for a summer vacation, which is fine.

Advice

If you would like to lifeguard, teach swim lessons or cashier at a neighborhood pool, make sure you get your certifications well before-hand! Technical issues can pop up any time and could delay your start date or even opportunity to work over summer. I recommend if you want to work over summer, make sure to have everything (including certifications if you need them) ready by February/March. Apply early, see your employers face-to-face, be excited to be involved. Be punctual, willing to learn and fixing mistakes and have a positive attitude.

Chemist Intern

May - August 2018 • St. Petersburg, FL

What I liked

Welcoming environment, was able to learn a lot and earn a certificate at the end of the summer.

What I wish was different

I wish I was given more to do, after I ran my titrations (2 hours roughly) I was pretty much done for the day.

Advice

When you don't have anything to do, they advised me to ask for new material instead of waiting for it to be assigned.
