Seattle Urban Nature Guide

September 2023 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I like that they give you free training over nature and guiding all ages nature based programming. The staff is amazing and the co-volunteers are all excited to be there. I have learned a lot already and hope to learn so much more as I go!

What I wish was different

I wish that I lived closer to Seattle- the drive is quite long!

Advice

If you can commit to the training - do it! I have learned a lot and done it all for free barring transportation and personal lunches. This is an invaluable resource for those looking to go into Environmental Science Education- there are training guides that you get to keep as well as the networking for future opportunities. I cannot recommend this enough, it is wonderful!

City of Seattle Parks and Reacreation Assistant

August - September 2021 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

The environment and the people in that community are nice and feel very comfortable working with them.

What I wish was different

I thought I will work inside the community center, but with construction, we need to work our activity camp program outside at the park. It was hot in the summer, and hard to keep track of the children outside.

Advice

I think you will need to have a very good communication and leadership skill in this position (b/c we had to work with parents, phone calls, and people who first come to our park) and sometime you need to keep track of the environment to check for the security around the children. But is a good experience is you want to work towards or major in human service.

Lifeguard

May - August 2019 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

The team I worked with at Ballard Pool was friendly, supportive, and firmly dedicated to ensuring patrons' safety. I loved coaching summer swim league, where I could see the difference the team made in our swimmer's confidence, strength, and sportsmanship skills.
