Accountant

What I liked

I enjoy the working culture and the people I work with.

What I wish was different

I wish this position was a permanent position instead of temporary.

Advice

I recommend that you start getting into the workforce while in school, if possible. Persuing your career choice after college always requires actual working experience. Do volunteering, internships and work-study within your career path while in school!

Paralegal Intern

July - September 2018 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

Learning more about the Criminal justice system

What I wish was different

I had more legal responsibilities, however, i understand this is not possible until I attend graduate or law school

Advice

You have to start somewhere. Even if you start at an extremely low level internship you will eventually move up or make connections in order to further your career. I was able to network and build relationships that will hopefully help me after college.

External Affairs Intern

July 2018 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I loved all the interactions with elected officials, especially Mayor Jenny Durkan! I liked the spontanaetiy in working with the External Team. Because this team plans and coordinates any event that involves the Mayor or Deputy Mayor’s, their schedules can be dull but also very hectic depending on which way the wind blows for the Mayoral Office.

What I wish was different

I am a part time intern and wish I had the ability to be full time because I love it so much.

Advice

I got this on in the Mayor’s office after introducing myself to the Mayor at an event I was volunteering for. My advice would be to always volunteer and give back, but also to put yourself out there whenever opportunities arise because you really never know what awaits you.
