I got to work with three different departments within Parks and Recreation and saw different angles of the whole operation throughout the city. I made connections with many interesting and talented people and got to pick up a lot of plant knowledge along the way. Additionally, all the City of Lakeland interns across all departments got together various times throughout the summer to learn about the city and to gain job-hunting skills.
What I wish was different
I wish I had been able to have more hours, because City of Lakeland interns are only allowed 20 hours a week.
Advice
Make sure to take advantage of all of the opportunities to meet with and participate in activities with the other City of Lakeland interns, because it was very interesting to learn about the ins and outs of the city's inner workings, and helpful to participate in the resume-building activities.
