City of Cedar Hills, Utah

Accounting Intern

August - November 2019 • Cedar Hills, UT

What I liked

Charl and Dax are very flexible and helpful (and everyone there!). Very friendly working environment and everyone was happy to help answer my questions. I love that Charl would take his time to explain and answer my questions. He also trusts his intern and gives them something important to do, not just basic intern work. I would say he is one of the best boss and mentor. I have learned a lot from him and everyone in the office.

What I wish was different

I wish there is a window near my desk but our desks were in the basement. I don't think there is anything they can do about it.

Advice

Apply for this job and take it! I seriously have learned so much from this internship. Government accounting can be confusing and challenging but Charl and Dax will help you!

Accounting Associate

September - December 2018 • Cedar Hills, UT

What I liked

Cedar Hills has a team-oriented environment. Staff members are always willing to help if you have questions, and you don't have to be afraid of making mistakes. They encourage learning and working together to figure things out. In such a small city, you have the opportunity to step up and take on multiple roles and projects. While only there a few months, I was able to help with the budget document, answer calls about utilities, and assist in park design. Though my main job-related tasks were still accounting focused, I had the opportunity to learn and grow in many other facets.

What I wish was different

I occasionally wished that there was more to do, but overall I enjoyed all the tasks that were given to me.

Advice

I recommend that you take initiative. It can be easy to get stuck in a routine of your simple accounting tasks, so it's important to get involved. Think outside of the box, and don't be afraid to make a change.

Accounting/ Finance Intern

April - August 2018 • Cedar Hills, UT

What I liked

I liked the atmosphere in their office. They quickly became like family and it wasnt a competitive nature. Easy to ask for help or direction if you were unaware of what to do, and they were very flexible with my schedule.

What I wish was different

I wish i would have had more responsibility. As an intern i was given a lot of "intern work" where it was just busy grunt work.

Advice

Work hard. Just because you may be doing work that may seem well below your pay grade, doesnt mean you give half the effort. Think of innovative ways to make things better for you and also the company.
