City of Battle Creek

About City of Battle Creek

The City of Battle Creek sits in Calhoun County along I-94, about halfway between Detroit and Chicago - a great location. We are known as "Cereal City," with a proud history, and promising future, providing some of the world's leading food brands, research, and training.

The city is home to Kellogg Company world headquarters, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Post Foods, and the Fort Custer Industrial Park. We are the third-largest city by land area in the State of Michigan, at 44 square miles. The city operates Battle Creek Executive Airport at Kellogg Field, with tenants including Duncan Aviation and WACO Aircraft. We also are home to the Western Michigan University College of Aviation, which is completing a large expansion in 2021. Along with many large corporations, we are home to many small businesses and creative entrepreneurs, giving us a well-rounded business profile.

Battle Creek has a variety of great educational opportunities, with multiple public school districts, private schools, Kellogg Community College, the Calhoun Area Technology Center, and the and the Kellogg Community College Regional Manufacturing Technology Center. We have a great public transit system - Battle Creek Transit - with bus routes and on-demand options to help get you where you need to go in Battle Creek, and across Calhoun County.

Our community is rich with recreational opportunities, featuring our 26 miles of Linear Park multi-use path through the city. Enjoy the path by bicycle in our silver Bicycle Friendly Community! We have a robust city park system, and field complex Bailey Park, where families can enjoy the accessible ANYbodies Playground. Neighbors and visitors also enjoy our Flash Flood Water Park, right downtown; the Binder Park Golf Course; and the Binder Park Zoo.

We appreciate the diversity in our community, including African American, Hispanic/Latino, Burmese, Japanese, and other neighbors. We are a young, inspired community, with an average age in the mid-30s.

We have a nine-member city commission, operating with a commission-city manager form of local government. Our city manager handles our day-to-day operations. We hope you will consider joining these operations by applying for an open position here today! Connect with us online at battlecreekmi.gov.
