Team Trainer

July 2016 • Pittsburgh, PA

What I liked

I worked with a lot of great people. Also, I have been working there for years, and this year I began moving through the Chick-fil-A leadership process, getting to use my own experience to train other Team Members. I viewed as kind of passing on my skills to the "next generation" of employees who will be the people left at the franchise when I leave to pursue engineering internships and careers.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been given more hours. The restaurant was trying to hire a lot of new people (which makes sense), but that left fewer hours to go around for everyone.

Advice

Respect people who work in service jobs! Don't view it as a job for just high-schoolers or people who aren't educated enough to get "better" jobs. Some people really enjoy it. Even though the skills needed in jobs like these are, for the most part, skills anyone can learn, people can really be proud of mastering these "easy" skills and doing their job well.

Human Resources Intern

May - July 2019 • Fredericksburg, VA

What I liked

I enjoyed interning at Chick-fil-A over the summer because it taught me a lot about myself. I enjoyed having a flexible schedule, where I could come and go as necessary, and reported directly to the owner of the business. I gained valuable insight on how Chick-fil-A operates and how they are revolutionizing the fast food industry by being personable with customers.

What I wish was different

The only thing that I wish had been different is having a defined role with tasks and responsibilities. The description and actual duties were not entirely inline.

Advice

Be open minded and have confidence. It is a great experience, not just interning but interacting with others who seem genuinely happy to be at work.

I love that I got to travel to different states to train the employees of a BRAND NEW restaurant.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have spent less time in one state, so I would have the opportunity to travel to more states.

April 2016 • Covington, LA

What I liked

Flexible scheduling, working with friends for part of the summer, I got payed

What I wish was different

Most of my friends left a month before I did, so I got stuck with a lot of less experienced workers that I didn’t know that well.

Advice

If you can find ways to work around/deal with the monotony, it’s not that bad for a summer job, but it certainly isn’t as good on a resume as an internship.
