Fast Food Worker

February 2019 - January 2020 • Minnesota City, MN

What I liked

"I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.'" -COO Dan Cathy Tax filings from 2017 indicate otherwise. Specifically, the company, through its charitable foundation, donated $1.8 million across three organizations with anti-LGBTQ sentiments. -Huffington Post

What I wish was different

This company continues to be associated with Christian Fundamentalist groups that demonize and work against the LGBTQIA+ community. Conversion therapy and being cast out of your communities for being different causes suicide and trauma in other human beings. It is shameful for Handshake to still be hosting this company on the website.

Advice

For example, the foundation donated $1,653,416 to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which has a "sexual purity" clause in its employee handbook that prohibits "homosexual acts" amongst its employees. A further $6,000 went to Georgia's Paul Anderson Youth Home, a Christian group home for troubled youth. According to Vox, the home teaches that same-sex marriage is a "rage against Jesus Christ and His values." Another $150,000 went to the Salvation Army, an organization which has been involved in anti-LGBTQ controversies for years, according to The Huffington Post.

What I liked

Understanding of mental health Sometimes considers feelings

What I wish was different

- More inclusive - Giving more opportunity, especially if the skillset is there already - Switching positions while on long hours - Better pay - Better understanding school and work must be a balance - Appreciating the younger workers - Too many cliques - Felt left out constantly - Favoritism

Advice

I would reconsider, CFA gets paid less than McDonald's. Depending on which store you work in, it can certainly be a positive experience. For the most part, I worked at two different CFA stores and did not enjoy it to the fullest. I felt under appreciated. I would work so hard only to be in terrible positions during my shifts. Some managers did truly care and I have a lot of respect for them. Others did not. Would highly consider a different line of work because of the bad pay, underappreciation, and weird hours. Work at a place with higher pay, even if you're not appreciated, it's better than terrible pay AND not being appreciated. (Just my experience)

Team Leader

May 2014 • St. Simons, GA

What I liked

I enjoyed the work itself: being service-oriented, going above and beyond what was required, being nice and respectful to people, and helping customers have a better day. Also, I worked at Chick-fil-a Saint Simons, but that didn’t appear on the list for me to select.

What I wish was different

I wish one of my managers was a different person; she shifts all the blame onto others and hides in her office in the back all day. It’s easy to say that a situation should have been handled differently when you weren’t there to see it in person.

Advice

Ask for raises and promotions and you will receive them. Don’t ask, and they will never offer or give them.

What I liked

I liked the positive energy of those who surrounded me at my job.

What I wish was different

I that when we renovated they told me in advance so I could work somewhere else.

Advice

Our store is fun. It’s a job where you get what you receive and if you bring positive energy you receive it. Also, it teaches you how to be strong, be a leader, and even how to have more patience.

Fast Food Worker

May 2015 • Memphis, TN

What I liked

Chick-fil-A is typically a friendly environment to work in. It was rewarding to work is many hours while having the support if coworkers to keep me going. There are also a few benefits that are worth working there for.

What I wish was different

It was a bit hot during the summer. I spent a considerable amount of time working outside in the sun taking orders. The car exhaust didn't make it any better, but it wasn't that big a deal. I've been through worse.

Advice

Though Chick-fil-A is a great place of business., it's not for everyone. It's a bit more demanding than what you'd expect. Be prepared in case this is what you choose for work!
