Chicago Transit Authority

Quality Inspection Intern

May 2020 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

Great people, low-stress work environment, many things to be improved.

What I wish was different

Advice

It's a good learning experience, especially if you don't know much about fasteners. However, staying in this department is a dead end. It makes more sense to get the experience and move on, unless you want to stay for the stability that working for the CTA provides.

Education Intern

June - August 2020 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I really enjoyed learning skills for e-learning and how to facilitate engagement virtually due to the current changes because of COVID-19.

What I wish was different

I wish the hiring process was easier because of all the steps it took to start definitely took up a lot of time. However, I understand why that was the case since the Chicago Transit Authority is an independent governmental agency created by state legislation.

Advice

Be able to rely on your team. Sometimes, you will have tasks or assignments that are new to you and you don't know how to go about it. Being able to rely on others' abilities and skills is key!

Junior Treasury Analyst Intern

May 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I liked the people and the environment and the relaxed feel. As long as you get your work done, you are encouraged to go to all the intern events and such throughout the summer.

What I wish was different

I wish I had waited to start until after finals, because I was so overwhelmed with everything.

Advice

I say that you should always push your comfort zone. I hadn't had any previous experience in Treasury and so there was a learning curve, but now I feel more well-rounded because of this experience.

Graphic Design Intern

January - August 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I loved that my experience was customizable. Since I am an advertising major and graphic design minor, I asked them if there were any projects I could do to gain more skills in my field, and they were very open in providing me with a lot of work that related to my field of study.

What I wish was different

I wish I got to visit and see other departments, and possibly help out in the communications department during my free time rather than being in Human Resources the entire internship.

Advice

I would say ask for help when you need it and don't be afraid to tell them what kind of skills/experiences you want to gain out of the internship because they are open with giving you just that.
