Chewy

Area Manager Intern

June - August 2022 • Indianapolis, IN

What I liked

The people here were great and I was able to learn so much from them. They made sure I was constantly learning something new while also improving in the things I had learned previously. The company culture was great and I always felt supported.

What I wish was different

Honestly, there was not really anything that stood out to me that I wish had been different. I really enjoyed my internship and the people I met. The only thing that maybe I would have like to be added on to the internship would be although I enjoyed being on the floor, I would have liked to have more experience in the office due to my own personal interests.

Advice

Work hard and make connections with everyone you meet. This goes for everyone in the building whether they are your manager or the people you are managing.

Software Engineer

June - August 2022 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I enjoyed collaborating with the backend team I've spent my internship with, the consistent friendly and welcoming culture, and the competitive compensation along with additional stipends provided for interns. My internship also included multiple events to network and explore Boston, and opportunities to learn more and connect with executives at Chewy. Also, the flexibility is great as interns were allowed to work a hybrid model of 3 in office days and 2 remote days, and this also differed depending on the team's schedules. Another factor I enjoyed was working close with my manager, who I learned and received a lot of support from. Overall, I expanded my skill set, networked with many peers, and felt welcomed the entire time!

What I wish was different

For my experience, I was the only intern on my team, and that did take much responsibility on my part to complete the onboarding process and developing an understanding of my team's project architecture at a high level. I feel that if there were another intern or two, it may have been a little easier to adapt in the beginning. However, I also think that being the only intern provided me to grow and build confidence to communicate with team members.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is to never be afraid to ask questions and consistently be curious! In any internship, an intern will start from somewhere and eventually grow towards the end. I made sure to ask for help, questions about new topics, and conduct daily or weekly meetings with team members to develop a better understanding of what I want to accomplish. I would like to also add my manager encouraged this, to always be curious, wherever in my career. With this, I was able to become more familiar with my team and myself, as communicating my thoughts and curiosity brought out my inner weaknesses that I strengthened.

Business Analyst Intern

June - August 2022 • Dania Beach, FL

What I liked

The project was extremely involved and allowed me to directly apply class concepts to real-world work. The culture and the people are truly amazing, and everyone cares about their people as much as they care about their pets.

What I wish was different

More upfront/informative application/relocation process. There were a lot of unknowns coming into the internship that made onboarding difficult.

Advice

You get as much out of it as you put in. If you really apply yourself and always ask for more work, this will be a great learning experience and introduction to corporate culture.

Advice

Buy nice shoes. Flat soled shoes will kill your feet after 10 hours a day on concrete floor.

Business Analyst Intern

June - August 2020 • Dania Beach, FL

What I liked

Even though the internship was remote, Chewy did a great job of implementing a lot of leadership development workshops and intern bonding activities. I also enjoyed the work that I did and my final recommendations ended up being implemented at the end of my internship, which made me feel like I was able to contribute to the company.

Software Engineering Intern

June - August 2020 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I enjoyed the work and felt valued by the company. The pay wasn't too shabby either.

What I wish was different

Due to COVID-19, the internship was adapted to be a remote internship. While I'm appreciative that I was able to still maintain my opportunity, many of the social aspects of the internship ended up feeling underwhelming.

Advice

You get out what you put in, so if networking and socializing isn't naturally supported, make sure you invest in it.
