Though I worked remotely all summer, the staff made an incredible effort to make me feel connected to the organization and project teams. CCR is an incredible place to work because everyone around you is thoughtful and intentional about the work they are doing and how the identities they hold inform their individual and collective action. Moreover, I had a fair amount of input on what my assignments would be. My curiosity led my work, and my supervisor was very supportive of me going outside my comfort zone to be able to learn and grow. By the end of the summer, I had gained the confidence and knowledge to be presenting at all staff meetings and interfacing with plaintiffs and co-counsel. Every step of the way, I was met with support and surrounded by people that I deeply admire.
What I wish was different
I wish that the internship had not been remote. I would have loved to be in NYC and to have connected with my fellow interns. However, it was still a terrifically transformative experience, and I'll be keeping in touch to see if my cohort can meet up in the future.
Advice
Ask questions! When you first receive assignments, it can be super overwhelming. And, at the beginning of the summer, there is a week's worth of reading necessary to be familiar with your projects/cases. Assignments from supervisors and staff members can sometimes be broad and unclear. I'd recommend trying to start each assignment right after you've been briefed. There are a lot of questions that arise in the first couple hours of work. It's important to be finding the correct information and formatting your findings accessibly so that your work will be maximally helpful.

What I liked
Being in New York was a great experience overall and also being able to design collateral for them ranging from banners to t-shirts gave me great experience.
What I wish was different
I wish I would've asked for future job opportunity there or have asked to freelance design remotely.
Advice
Make yourself a valuable asset so that they want to keep you.
