Water and Waste Compliance Co-op

January 2022 • Lima, OH

What I liked

While working here I liked the company's culture and values because they reflect the care that it has for its employees. During my first week, I was assigned a "Buddy" from a different site, through their co-op program. We had regular meetings to answer any questions I had or to discuss anything that I needed help with. I was included in many teams ranging from site improvement teams to investigation teams. The workload gives you a variety of experience in your area of study and plenty of meaningful hands on experience.

What I wish was different

Co-ops are not allowed to do overtime currently. Housing was a little difficult to find for an affordable price within a reasonable commute. Corporate onboarding was not site specific and felt orientated towards corporate headquarters. There were not many networking events held during the term. This would have been helpful to get a better understanding of the organizational structure and other people's role with the company.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share from this experience is do not be afraid to ask questions. Asking many questions will help you learn and develop more over your term. In addition to learning more, asking questions will ensure that you are on the same page as your peers and team members. Networking with others during your term will only increase your success. Asking questions to others will help build your interpersonal relationships, everyone is always glad to help and answer any questions that you may have.
