Food and Beverage

July - August 2020 • Sandusky, OH

What I liked

The people at the catering part of the internship. They were helpful and more understanding about things.

What I wish was different

A meal plan should have been implemented (even if we had to pay for it ourselves)- it got costly without one. The housing was horrible; what type of housing doesn’t have a light or a fan. Management during first part of internship were rude and very condescending minus Zach he was chill.

Advice

Ask ask ask a lot of questions, especially if you feel like you aren’t learning something or if you are getting grief about something

Amusement Park Worker

May - August 2018 • Sandusky, OH

What I liked

I liked how diverse it was. There are people around the world that come to work at the park. I met people from Poland, Spain, Jamaica, Malaysia, and many other places. It's a great way to learn new things and meet people from around the world. They also have many internship opportunities, so anyone who wants to get into marketing would really benefit in having an internship here. I also enjoyed the special trips they planned for employees. They would have different trips scheduled for each month and you could sign up for which ever one you decided you wanted to attend. There was also a fee that had to be paid but the destinations are great (places like Kings Island, Niagara Falls, Columbus, Chicago, New York). Be mindful that the trips change every year.

What I wish was different

I wish the living conditions were better. If you are of age (over 18) and live a long distance away, then you'd be qualified to live in their housing. The housing is divided to a certain degree (internationals stay in a certain area and interns live in a certain building). There are apartments and dorm styled living area. the dorms are extremely small and compact leaving little room for your belongings. It's best to live in an apartment if you want more space.

Advice

The pay and hours differ with each department. I worked in admissions and that department has the lowest pay (starts at $8.50), whereas if you work in foods, your pay will start at $9.50. You'd also get more hours (which isn't always the best thing). Me and my roommates schedules were completely different. My days would average from 8am to 4pm, whereas my roommates would average from 10am to closing (which would sometimes be midnight). No matter which department you go in, you'll have to prepare to work long hours and stay at the park past midnight most times.

Guest Services and Special Events Intern

May - August 2019 • Sandusky, OH

What I liked

I loved the people I worked with and the experience of working in a theme park. Cedar Point provided the absolute best opportunity to grow both personally and professionally. 11/10 recommend this place.

What I wish was different

The job felt more like a summer job than an internship.

Advice

The management is not the best, so beware of that. Favoritism is an issue here. Come in with a positive attitude and remember why you're there. You'll only remember the positives in the long run!
