Management Intern

May - August 2018 • Sandusky, OH

What I liked

I liked the experience of living on my own and driving to an amusement park for work. The work itself was informative, and familiar.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have been in a position that gave more opportunities for moving up rather then holding down a convenience store. I also wish that the hours wouldn't have been so long.

Advice

Be ready for an internship that doesn't follow conventional employment codes. They may schedule over forty hours with no overtime pay. Pay rate was good, but up to you how you wish to spend your summer.

Area supervisor of Catering and Special Events

May - August 2019 • Sandusky, OH

What I liked

I loved the people that I met and the ability I had to grow personally and professionally. This internship pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me see what it took to run multiple different events

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time to network with other interns that were there. I loved my coworkers and the other interns in my department, but I wish I had a chance to get to know more people outside if my department and share experiences.

Advice

Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, it might be over whelming at first but in the end it will be worth it.

Customer Success Associate (PR and Marketing)

April - October 2018 • Sandusky, OH

What I liked

How wide of a variety of a job it was, no same day of work was the same. I would work in the communication center, lost and found, town hall, guest services, best day crew, special events, and vip tours. Also got to shadow kings island and progressive field

What I wish was different

A better communication system.

Advice

Go in with an open mind! There’s 5,000 people that work in the park and 20-40 thousand guests so you meet new people all day everyday as well as learn.

Area Supervisor

February 2019 • Sandusky, OH

What I liked

I liked meeting and interacting with new people from all over the world. Cedar Point relies a lot on the internationals they hire to come over and help us out. So, there are people from multiple different countries who speak different languages, yet we all get along here and make long lasting friendships. We may not speak each others' languages fluently but we are somehow able to still communicate and build a great team of hard and dedicated workers.

What I wish was different

I wish the hours would have been different, but then again the paychecks with all those hours were nice. However, it is easy to get burnt out working all the hours without much time for breaks or vacations in between. Of course, these huge amounts of hours only come along when we are short staffed. Once we are good enough staffed, then there is time for everyone to rest and take a breather every now and then.

Advice

Take advantage of they work experience and moving up in the chain in order to fulfill a passion for whatever it is that you love to do. I went from being a lifeguard, to a deck supervisor to an Area Supervisor, and now I'm moving up to Guard Instructor. It's a passion of mine, working here and I doing what I love to do everyday: being a lifeguard.

Server

April - October 2018 • Sandusky, OH

What I liked

Overall, working at Perkins Restaurant for Cedar Point was an amazing experience. Though the hourly wage was not the greatest (it is minimum wage for servers), I made more than expected due to tips. I met so many new people and learned from them and their experiences. The management is awesome. They love to have fun and joke around, but not before all the work is done.

What I wish was different

I wish there were less servers this past season. They accidentally over-hired on the amount of servers we had which lead to smaller sections and a few less hours.

Advice

Go to the week long training before Perkins and Cedar Point officially opens. You will gain so much experience and practice making you one step ahead of all the new servers. This will help you get better shifts and table sections which ultimately, helps you make more.

I loved interacting with the guests and getting to know my leadership team. I also enjoyed learning a variety of positions at ride locations and creating fun for associates and guests alike.

Hotel Front Desk Clerk

May - August 2019 • Sandusky, OH

What I liked

Rent was incredibly cheap, you get into all Cedar Fairs parks for free, you get free tickets, you get discounts on food, souvenirs, and tickets, free shuttle service, free parking, there were regular bus trips to different places (malls, museums, zoos, King's Island, Niagra Falls, Chicago, etc.). Many restaurants, shops, and museums in Sandusky give CP employee discounts. My coworkers and management were absolutely amazing.

What I wish was different

I was placed in the largest apartment so I had 5 roommates that i shared one bathroom and one kitchen with. AC was only in the living room. There is also lots of loud partying and I'm not a partier, plus I had to work earlier than most. Didn't get much sleep many times. Sometimes I would get off work at midnight and have to be back at 8 am.

Advice

If you're not a partier and need a lot of sleep, live in the dorms. The dorms were rebuilt and are very nice. If you get stuck in the apartments (which is for interns only), try to get one that only has room for 2 people. Avoid getting stuck in a 6 person one at all cost.
