I was exposed to a real TV News room for the first time. That allowed me to truly understand the field I was entering. I was even able to help the newsroom with daily newsgathering and reporting. My favorite part was being able to participate in CBS Summerfest on Fridays.
What I wish was different
I wish I was able to gain more on camera experience with the station. The internship taught me how to advocate for myself and really find my voice.
Advice
You must be able to speak up, closed mouths do not get fed!

What I liked
It is a hands-on internship where your role within the company is essential to other departments being able to complete their tasks as well. It is detail-oriented and requires clear communication with co-workers and department heads in order to problem solve and complete tasks efficiently.
What I wish was different
I wish there was more flexibility within the scheduling, and more opportunity to work linger hours within a day.
Advice
For anyone interested in television, this is a great opportunity to learn about what drives tv in all aspects: show ratings. This will provide you with a great background in order to better understand how other departments (such as sales, legal, and marketing) function based on how well the current programs are performing across the nation.

Creative Services Intern
June - August 2018 • Chicago, IL
What I liked
I've had a wonderful time with the CBS 2 Chicago Creative Services department. They allowed me to run the Instagram which I gained 800 followers. I consistently pitched ideas and created content for the Instagram profile. I was allowed out in the downtown area to take pictures for original content and got behind-the-scenes shots of reporters. According to the insights and analytics, I have brought in five out of the nine top posts in the past 30 days. In addition, I am a beginner's level at Adobe Aftereffects and have advanced my skills in Adobe Premiere. Other professionals at my work have noticed my skills, and I was given the opportunity to teach senior professionals.
What I wish was different
I wish that I had more agency to pitch projects of my own and to write my own stories.
Advice
Network! Ask to informally interview the superstars that are around you.
