I loved the opportunity to explore the correlation between nonprofit work, data analysis, and grant research. It made the ngo business cycle all the more real, and is as able to learn from an amazing team of people (as well as animals). I would highly recommend looking at opportunities that might at first seem trivial or unrelated to a career path. I invested my time, and left with irreplaceable experience and a new interest/ passion for nonprofit work.
What I wish was different
I wish I had been more involved in fundraising campaigns.
Advice
I say the internship listing while I was in vacation in Mexico. I had no computer with me, so I was unable to send a cover letter or resume. I immediately emailed the office and expressed my interest. I explained my circumstances and told them that I would be sending my application in upon my return to Los Angeles. Do not hesitate to contact the organization, and send in your application early! It shows interest, and I was told that my persistence stood out.
