I liked that I was given a lot to responsibility. I created presentations that were sown to our volunteers to educate them on people experiencing homelessness. I also liked that I got face-to-face interaction with both volunteers and clients, which allowed me to connect with the work.
What I wish was different
I wish that towards the end of the summer, I had had more projects to work on. I had a lot to do for the first two-thirds of the internship, but in August the work began winding down and sometimes I was a little bored.
Advice
I would advise anyone looking at an unpaid internship to seek funding, and to get academic credit! My internship was unpaid and I received generous funding from Villanova donors, as well as finding from my major department to gain 3 academic credits for my internship. This made the internship a possibility for me, even though it was technically unpaid.
