Drug Product Manufacturing Intern

May - December 2020 • Bloomington, IN

What I liked

I love the company! Even though it was virtual, the HR team sent us multiple packages to make us feel like we are a part of the company. All of the employees I worked with were so nice and always there to help me if I needed it. During my short time, I even got to attend their women's network where I got to feel the supportive environment in a male-dominated field.

What I wish was different

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, I was unable to go onsite for my internship. I wish I was able to work with my equipment hands-on instead of relying on pictures.

Advice

Network! Even though my internship was virtual, we had intern projects that we worked with other interns on and got to learn about what they're doing. I also got to talk to a lot of employees throughout the company to learn about multiple different positions within Catalent.

Lab assistant intern

June - August 2021 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

I liked the people, most people were very kind.

What I wish was different

Almost everything, it was more of a job than internship, so instead of learning you just do stuff people tell you to. It is also exhausting and for the wage it was not worth it for me. I found the timecard-punch in system to be a pain losing 15 minutes everyday. This internship was not for me since I am interested in research and this was more mindless work (could be a good option is someone wants industry experience). Also the diversity is quite bad, every new hire is a white man, most people you work with are white. I don’t feel that it would be an inclusive or comfortable environment for everyone.

Advice

I would not recommend this internship, but if you just want some first time experience it’s not too bad.

Lab Assistant

September 2020 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

The company culture at the San Diego site is great! Everyone is friendly and encouraging which makes for an ideal learning environment.

What I wish was different

After I was offered the job it took quite a bit of time to process the paperwork and for me to actually start working.

Advice

They ask and expect you to know how to answer really comprehensive questions both about the skills needed to be in the field as well as the science that goes into preforming the experiments that they do, so be prepared to think through these questions!

Advice

Just go with the flow, there are going to be certain parts of the internship that doesn't suit your desires, but there will be other experiences that you wouldn't be able to gain otherwise.
