scribe

July - August 2019 • Radford, VA

What I liked

I liked working around physicians that made me feel part of a team. I was able to learn so much in my short time working there, and that knowledge will stay with me for the rest of my life. I enjoyed the support, and friendliness of my co workers.

What I wish was different

I wish I had worked night shift so I could get all aspects of the position. I primarily worked mornings and afternoons.

Advice

I would say take medical terminology. It will give you a baseline for medical jargon.

Adopt A Student Nurse

June - August 2019 • Roanoke, VA

What I liked

Lots of opportunities to learn and have hands-on experiences, I felt like after I returned to nursing school clinicals I had a leg up on my experience and was not so anxious.

What I wish was different

More ability to shadow on different units to see what types of nursing is at the hospital and what would be the best fit.

Advice

Do not take anything for granted when it comes to learning from other health care professionals. While I was ultimately there to learn the role of the RN, I learned so much from the Respiratory Therapists, CNAs, Techs, and Resident physicians. Every conversation is a learning opportunity and it is important to absorb as much as possible.

Business Analyst Intern

May - August 2018 • Roanoke, VA

What I liked

Becoming well versed in healthcare analytics and consulting requires immersion, like learning a foreign language. This summer served as an incredible opportunity for me to not only strengthen more technical skills like financial modeling, database development, and strategic analysis, but also provided me with the opportunity to learn the intricacies of an industry I was not previously familiar with. I couldn't have asked for a better internship experience.
