I liked being able to learn a new area of engineering and liked the flexibility of work hours for the company. I liked the constant communication and updates on projects
What I wish was different
I wished it was in person as the projects would have better communication in person.
Advice
Make sure to set aside a specific time slot every week/day and make sure to always ask questions if you have them.

Software Engineering Intern
January - April 2021 • American Fork, UT
What I liked
Loved the energy and culture there. It was a great opportunity to learn react-native, meet other aspiring students and developers, and to apply the skills I have learned from schooling into a really great project idea.
What I wish was different
Being able to work one-on-one with another developer would have helped my personal growth and effectivity.
Advice
Communicate as much as possible with your team and team lead if you are working remotely. If you are new to the language or some aspects of anything you are working on, just ask questions and research.

What I liked
There was a great amount of trust and respect given to each intern which allows you to have the freedom to explore and find ways to accomplish your tasks in new ways. Both Scott and Trevor made it clear that they do not want us wasting our time and so they gave meaningful activities and made sure we knew it was important that we put in enough hours to make it meaningful, but that it is most important to get the work done.
What I wish was different
Covid-19 made it difficult to get to know other team members, however, this is nothing that can be done on a management side, they were near perfect.
Advice
This experience opened many doors for me. Scott and Trevor are great about making sure you find ways to improve your resume, expand your knowledge, and create connections. If you put in great work you will receive great opportunities.

Software Developer Intern

What I liked
Caravel gave me a chance to capitalize on knowledge I was gaining from school by taking part in a real world project. You get to interact personally with the founders and gain an understanding of what it takes to run a business. I loved the time I spent with them!
What I wish was different
Due to Covid restrictions, everything had to be remote throughout my time with Caravel. Without Covid there, I would have loved more in-person interactions with the company.
Advice
You will get out of this experience what you put into it. If you work really hard and challenge yourself to solve problems, you will learn an incredible amount.

What I liked
I enjoyed the opportunity to put some of what I had learned to use and learn new skills as well. Management is good and will work with you. Hours are flexible and all the work I did was done remotely. Although there is an emphasis on self learning there is an experienced leader to help through difficult portions of the work.
What I wish was different
I wish that the beginning of my internship experience had been smoother and more organized, After some things were worked out it was good though.
