Cyber Data Analyst Intern

June 2019 • McLean, VA

What I liked

I loved how friendly and kind everyone on my team and that I met were to me, everyone was patient with teaching me the ropes of how the business operated. Capital One also had many special events for the interns periodically throughout the summer, which made it a less stressful environment and become more of a casual setting sometimes. I also learn new things everyday and continue to enjoy doing the work that I do. The swag that they give to the interns was also a nice touch.

What I wish was different

More training and certification opportunities

Advice

Try to meet as many people as you can throughout the summer and expand your network. Everyone will be willing to talk to you and give you advice, I was even able to meet many people who were of the Sr. Director level and above!

Barista

May 2019 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

It’s half bank half coffee shop and you have to work both parts because we’re licensed by the bank and we are a representation of both. I say “we” because that is the atmosphere that takes place in the work place it’s always as a team and as a “we”

What I wish was different

Everything was great

Advice

To be on time is to be late to be early is to be on time. When working with a team there is no such thing as “I”

Business Analyst Intern

June - August 2019 • McLean, VA

What I liked

I liked that I was given a real-world problem to solve on my own that had potential actionable business implications. While I was working on my own, I also felt very supported by my manager, my mentor (a young business analyst on my team), my UVA mentor (a young business analyst not on my team who graduated from UVA), the internship program staff, and my fellow interns. I loved having a cohort of 180 other interns to help me grow my network.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been an opportunity to explore some other mini-problems aside from the one larger problem I spent 10 weeks working on, perhaps in a team setting rather than an individual one.

Advice

I would tell interns to take advantage of every opportunity presented to them, and to seek out experiences that they want to have - Capital One is more than happy to support you in that!
