Trip Leader

June - August 2019 • Fayette, ME

What I liked

I got paid to go backpacking- it doesn't get a whole lot better than that. It was fun to plan the trips and teach the boys how to pack their gear. On the trail, I had a good time leading the lads through the wilderness.

What I wish was different

The director of the camp, Andy Lillienthal, is a terrible employer. He is the owner and director of the camp, which means every dollar spent on camp is a dollar out of his final paycheck. Therefore, he was extremely stingy and would easily lose his temper when his money was involved. Even if money wasn't involved, he is very unpleasant to interact with. He has no ability admit his mistakes, and will therefore treat his employees harshly even if they did nothing wrong.

Advice

Avoid Andy. Camp is really fun if you just never talk to him.
