Camp Summit

Camp Counselor

May - August 2019 • Paradise, TX

What I liked

I loved everything about Camp Summit! It's a place where everyone can feel welcomed as soon as you step foot on site. I've never had a place like that and I can thank camp for giving me a home, a place I can be myself, and forever friends. It gave me the experience of a lifetime with disabilities I've never known about until the summer and now I have so much more knowledge of the disabilities and how to work with them. Camp opened up my eyes to a whole new world that I now know that I want in my life in some way forever.

What I wish was different

I wouldn't change a thing! (maybe the amount of sleep I got)

Advice

Keep an open mind going into it! It's going to be so difficult especially the first couple of weeks, but you adjust, figure things out, and eventually you'll feel like you actually know what you're doing. You will be so proud of yourself once you're actually doing it, but you have to be open minded to what can be thrown at you.

Kitchen Staff

June 2017 - August 2019 • Paradise, TX

What I liked

I loved working in the kitchen because my boss was able to work with my busy summer schedule. The people I worked with were wonderful. The best part was seeing the little glimpses of some very happy campers.

What I wish was different

Advice

Come to work because you enjoy what you are doing and not just because it is a job. Realize how good you really do have it.

Arts and Crafts Activity Director

May - August 2018 • Paradise, TX

What I liked

I loved working with the campers and planning the art activities for each week.

What I wish was different

I wish I got more sleep and had a better food selection.

Advice

Get ready to fall in love with these campers. Its a day in and day out job, you don't stop once they go to bed. Its a 24 hour 6 days a week job. It will be the most rewarding and hardest job you will ever have.
