What I liked

The community at Camp Somerset is unlike any other. The head staff all care about you and take the time to know you personally. All of the counselors at camp are willing to be your friend and help you out especially when things get tough. And the kids are amazing, yes, they can tire you out, but that's just part of working with kids.

The leadership wasn’t as strong as it could’ve been.

Advice

Be ready for 2 months of a very active lifestyle. It’s a lot of work, but overall worth it

Camp Counselor

What I liked

I loved the people at camp. Everyone was so sweet and welcoming, from the staff to the kids. I think we all formed really strong connections with each other and will remain lifelong friends.

What I wish was different

I wish I did not have to switch cabins halfway through the summer. I found this to be rather unfair to both me and the kids.

Advice

Working with kids all the time will be a tiring endeavor, but it will be worth it in the end when you leave with strong connections with the kids.

Office Secretary

What I liked

It was a welcoming environment, the schedule was flexible and I was able to work on my college classes when I had free time.

What I wish was different

I was working mostly by myself so if I had questions I would have to wait for someone to come in.

Advice

This is a perfect summer job for someone who wants something that is not too time-consuming but also fun at the same time.

Videographer

What I liked

I liked the freedom of creativity and being able to use gear that I was familiar with. It was nice to work with kids and the great group of people who ran the camp.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more members on staff that summer because of how stretched thin everyone was.

Advice

Make sure you take time for yourself. If you have a minute, take that minute. You’ll never get “ahead” when working on editing a video, but you will always be able to get it done in time.
