Camp Roger

Camp Cou

May - August 2019 • Rockford, MI

What I liked

I liked refocusing my life on what life is really about. Every day you get to celebrate God and help kids see him too. Plus nature is awesome and you spend a lot of time in it.

What I wish was different

I think the camp still needs to shake some of its more harmful traditions. However, I think they are making progress.

Advice

Bring a raincoat.

What I liked

Almost everything! It was my third summer working here and I absolutely love this the community, the work that we do with children and the mission of the camp.

What I wish was different

The commute everyday to Day Camp can be kind of exhausting.

Advice

This is great experience for any education major or someone who loves nature and working with kids and spreading the gospel!!

What I liked

I loved having the opportunity to work with kids and share the awesomeness of God and the woods with them. I also loved the community that the counselors build with each other and the fun times that we had together. While challenging at times I would totally recommend working at Camp Roger.

Camp Counselor

June - August 2019 • Rockford, MI

What I liked

The community is very supportive. I learned a ton about child management and working in a tight knit community. There was so much pure joy at this summer camp.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time off. When you work as a counselor you are on all the time, except for your few days off.

Head Counselor

May - August 2019 • Rockford, MI

What I liked

I was really able to develop my personal gifts in this role, particularly mentorship skills and some conflict management (an area I need a lot of growth in). Besides my personal growth, I don't think there was ever a day where something joyful didn't happen. I have never laughed harder than some of the moments at Camp Roger and I have made lifelong friends in three short months.
