what I liked about this job was that I got to work with a diverse population of children and adults with developmental disability. I got to spend the summer sleeping in cabin and creating fun and amazing memories with the campers. we got to sing, dance and enjoy being ourselves.

Advice
You get to yourself and be accepted by every staff member and camper. You learn to be empathetic and a compassionate person after this experience. At the end instead of thinking that you are impacting the lives of the campers you will see that they are the ones who impact your life the most. Also, you will meet amazing staff that come from around the world to work in this amazing place.

What I liked
I absolutely fell in love with taking care of Developmentally disabled people. They have the biggest hearts and provide so much happiness to all around them.
What I wish was different
I wish I had known exactly what I was going to be providing for the campers. I felt a little blind-sided when I arrived and was thrown into the work before any introduction.
Advice
This was the most wonderful experience I've ever had. But it was much harder work than I had expected. I would advise that you ask exactly what your role will be while being interviewed.

Nursing Assistant
May - August 2018 • Boulder Creek, CA
What I liked
I loved the opportunity to work with the special needs population. It was a great chance to expand my career interests in the field of nursing and discover a new passion. It was also a beautiful setting in the Santa Cruz mountains, I was so lucky to live there for the entirety of the summer .
What I wish was different
I would have enjoyed a more generous pay rate but in the end I understand it is a non-profit organization and that housing and meals were provided at no cost to me all summer.
Advice
Come prepared to work very long days and pour all of your energy into this position. It is physically and emotionally demanding work but extremely rewarding.
