What I liked

I loved seeing all of the campers each week and helping them to reach their goals. I also loved how I was able to connect with each camper and share my experiences with them. I also enjoyed seeing the campers come back throughout the summer to experience more fun and challenges.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have been able to have a more breaks throughout the day so I wasn't cognitively drained by the end of each week. It is a very hands on and busy job, but it was something that was able to confirm my career path.

Advice

Be prepared that this is not just another "summer camp counselor job." This organization is a camp for people with disabilities and special needs, so there are additional duties of this job than just being your typical camp counselor. For me, it was the perfect fit because I want to work with people with special needs after graduation and this was a foot in the door somewhere that gave me that opportunity.

What I liked

I was able to work with all ages which was so mind opening! The environment was also amazing. What I enjoyed the most was being able to work with others from all around the world.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more activities to have for the campers.

Advice

Don’t be afraid to take a harder job just because you’re scared you won’t be able to pull it off or have limited experience. You never know how big of a difference you can make in someone’s life by taking sacrifices that scare you.
