Cache Valley Bank

Lending Intern

July - September 2022 • Logan, UT

What I liked

I enjoyed the environment of Cache Valley Bank. The team I worked for was so helpful as I learned how new loans, lines of credit, and loan renewals worked.

What I wish was different

I would have loved to stay longer. I enjoyed what I did there and it was hard to come back to school.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions! The purpose of an internship is to learn. You aren't expected to know and understand everything you are doing right at first.

What I wish was different

- Maybe higher pay, but it was alright for an internship.

Advice

- Don't panic when you start working with customers! Your fellow tellers will be a great help and you'll pick it up fast.

Credit Administration Intern

August 2020 • Logan, UT

What I liked

I like getting insight into the lending process and the regulations that need to be met.

What I wish was different

Advice

Having background knowledge of terminology is very useful. I hadn't been exposed much to lending lingo before this internship and I felt lost when I started.

What I liked

Great community bank which is experiencing strong growth. Lots of exposure to the world of business and finance. Great coworkers and customers.

What I wish was different

Banking can be a slower than average progressing career. I hope to see CVB improve their training, career progression, talent retention strategies. They are getting big enough that they need to start adopting additional personnel structure like many other large business have.

Advice

If you have the opportunity, I would take it. It was the best thing for my schooling and career.

What I liked

Becoming close with others who lived in Logan for the summer, outdoor activities, summer community events. I got to meet TONS of new and super cool people also here for the summer, i made connections I never would have been able too.

What I wish was different

I wouldn't wish to change anything about my summer experience except not being allowed to use the ARC. I was told i could use it if i was a registered student in spring I could use it for the summer but then couldn't, but really it wasn't a big deal with all the outdoor activities i was able to participate in.

Advice

Don't be intimidated by talking to new people, everyone I was friends with and spent time was were all new to me. People during the summer are very social and willing/wanting to try new things or just go find adventures. I made some of my greatest friends here in college over the summer, and all the cool new things i got to try (such as climbing, water skiing, shotgun shooting, new hikes, boating, etc) were all through new people. SO JUST GET OUT THERE!

To be honest: nothing. The bank is great.

May 2018 • Logan, UT

What I liked

I love working with some many clients and people. The work is fast paced and always changing.

What I wish was different

I wish the on the job training would have been more in-depth but it’s a little bit impossible with the amount of information that has to be learned.

Advice

If a person in your network says you should apply for the job, do it! Even if you don’t end up getting the first job, they might like you enough to suggest a different position!
