What I liked

I'm a person that work hard, and like to help people. I have the opportunity to help people to prepare for the higher goal. As improving the English or to prepare to attend a College or University.

What I wish was different

The one thing that I wish to be different, it was the time to help more people.

Advice

One thing that I like to be a volunteer is the opportunity that we have to meet new people. So if a person is shy, it can be a great opportunity to develop a skill to be more communicative.

Mentor and Messaging Intern

What I liked

The environment was very uplifting and friendly. Plus, I always felt like I was learning and growing a lot everyday.

What I wish was different

There's not really anything I would have changed about the experience. When I was in the middle of the internship, I wanted more direction on how to do things, but looking back that minimal direction is what helped me grow the most.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions, and don't be afraid to make decisions. I found that I did my best work when I made decisions about how I was going to spend my time, and then I'd ask my supervisors questions about how my work was going and that helped me get more done than waiting for something to do.

What I liked

I was thrown right into the work to help make a difference in the company. I wasn’t used to run errands, but I was seen as a co-worker and given real responsibility to make a change in the course outcomes. They liked me enough to extend my internship twice.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have continued to work in office. With Covid, we all ended up working remotely with sometimes made me feel a little out of the loop. This was in no fault of Pathway though!

Advice

Don’t be afraid to offer suggestions or your input. If it is good, it could truly impact the work positively.

What I liked

It was a ton of fun to work with such amazing people who have so much wisdom and experience. I love the mission of BYU-Pathway Worldwide and I would highly recommend being a part of the team to gain a perspective into what education can do for our brothers and sisters around the world.

What I wish was different

I do wish that I had been able to spend more time in the office as it was remote and sometimes it was a bit slow.

Advice

Make sure you communicate effectively, and be proactive in finding things to do.

I loved the people you get to meet and work. Everyone is willing to help you grow and they are very patient when you are first learning. They empower you to become better each day.

What I wish was different

Sometimes there was a lot to do, other times it was very hard to find something to do. It would be nice to constantly have something to do.

Advice

Do your best, be professional. Don't act like a teenager, be and adult and people will notice when you are ding a good job.

What I liked

I really liked the environment at BYU-Pathway. It is a church organization and relatively new, so there are lots of opportunities for growth in the company and lots of change going on. It is exciting and ever-changing to be there and every day is different.

What I wish was different

I wish we didn't have such fluctuation in how busy we were. I would have times that were super busy with deadlines to complete projects, and then other times that were quite slow and I had to ask for things to do.

Advice

Be open to new experiences and be willing to learn and help wherever you are needed; even if it isn't in your job description.

What I liked

I enjoyed the atmosphere of community and friendship that I had with those that I worked with. I liked the sense of purpose I had when I was helping students plan their degrees as they progressed towards graduation.

What I wish was different

As an academic adviser, there is a lot of information that you need to know in order to help students more fully. I wish that I had been more prepared for some of the questions that I was asked by studying the resources that I had available more often than I did. In doing this, I would have been a better help to students , and a better asset to my employers.

As an employee, you need to be willing to continue learning and be able to be humble in the feedback that you receive in order to make you better at your job.
