I had an outstanding summer internship experience with the Butt Construction team. The opportunity to work on-site and see construction progress daily was a great experience. My supervisors trusted me with responsibilities and allowed me to grow into the role. I observed the jobs that my supervisors did daily and learned important aspects of managing a construction site.
What I wish was different
Although the site had progressed throughout the summer, progress slowed in the second half. This was to no fault of the BCC team rather the government causing slowdowns.
Advice
One piece of advice would be to always seek new opportunities. Constantly ask if there is anything you can help with. Another important tip is to document the job, it is really easy to remember the tasks you've done, and the progress of the project while you are onsite, however after leaving the pictures I took and the things I wrote down remind me of my experiences and the things I learned.

What I liked
Overall, I had a wonderful experience working with BCC. My supervisors and fellow co-workers were very kind and welcoming, creating an ideal work environment. Also, I enjoyed having the opportunity to work on the job site and be a part of the construction process. It was great to see the the behind the scenes of what goes into a project. I was able to learn key aspects from a managerial prospective.
What I wish was different
Although I had experienced a great deal of construction process, I wish I had been more a part of the overall engineering plans/process. Also, I would have documented the construction process better, photos/written accounts, for future reference. I wish I would have challenged myself more to be put into more engineering related problem solving situations. In addition, I wish I could have connected more with the other intern before being put on separate projects.
Advice
I would recommend to never be afraid to ask any type of question; the supervisors are always willing to share any info about the project or construction in general. Also, I recommend to take every opportunity to see the various construction being done. Take a mental note of any mistakes made, to apply it to a similar situation you may have in the future. Hold yourself accountable and be sure to stay on the tasks given to you. Never be discouraged if you may not understand a certain part of the project, someone will be willing to fill you in.
