Buckle

Sales Intern

March 2019 • Toledo, OH

What I liked

It was a friendly environment with a bunch of interns from the area. I got to gain experience with all types of customers and really got a good look at the behind the scenes of retail.

What I wish was different

More activities with other interns in different stores.

Advice

It's a great experience with performance bonuses. Everybody is super friendly, and it's a great place to dive into the sales world in your early college career.

Sales

June - September 2019 • Maumee, OH

What I liked

I loved my manager Jess, although she was fairly new to the store, she was so knowledgeable about all aspects of the operation and was so eager to help me reach my maximum potential and become a denim specialist. They were also very flexible with my other employer!

What I wish was different

Due to surrounding stores being short staffed there were a lot of times when our employees had to leave to help other stores which made an impact on our standard operation.

Advice

I would highly recommend this retailer for anyone who is outgoing and loves to interact with people on a daily basis. The pay is based on your sales since the pay is $5.50 + 3% commission so the more willing you are to go for it, the more money you’re able to make. They also higher people to put away freight which would be a good transition for someone wanting to get their foot in the door with retail and sales. You get to learn the store but with less customer interaction.

Sales and Management Intern

June - August 2019 • Toledo, OH

What I liked

I liked getting to see what it involves being a store manager at Buckle. I was able to shadow interviews, attend weekly meetings, and analyze store sales data.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish was different is that there would have been less interns at my location. Usually there is only one or two per store, but I was at a larger volume store and we had four.

Advice

For this internship, you need to be able to be personable and able to work in a customer service kind of environment. The internship will teach you a lot if you are open to learning and being reviewed through out.

Apparel Salesperson

June - September 2019 • Grand Forks, ND

What I liked

I liked how it was very interactive with people. I met a lot of new people and became friends with a few. I was able to provide women and men with apparel that best fit them and their style. I also liked how it got me out of my comfort zone in really made me conversate with people I may usually not.

What I wish was different

I wish that it wasn't commission based on pay because that can sometimes become competitive with other employees and feel unfair at times.

Advice

Its a great way to meet new people and get out of your comfort zone.

Sales and Business Intern

May - August 2019 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

I enjoyed the flexible schedule and being able to make a difference on the team.

What I wish was different

I wish I had learned more of the business side of things and been able to network with other stores, instead of just being on sales every day.

Advice

I would advise people to always ask questions and push the boundaries. I had the most success when I shared my thoughts and convinced others to change up their approach.
