Broward Health

Marketing Intern

May - August 2021 • Fort Lauderdale, FL

What I liked

I enjoyed the wide range of opportunities from community outreach, writing for hyper-publications, speaking with patients about their experience, planning events, and venturing into the marketing side of healthcare.

What I wish was different

I wish I learned more about the graphic design and website building. The internship was only 10 weeks and time flew, but this was during the summer when COVID started to pick up again. Although it limited some opportunities, I had to get creative to make the most of it.

Advice

I encourage students to step out of their comfort zone. I never knew about the marketing side of healthcare. My view was limited to nurses, doctors, and patients. Seeing the administrative side made me more appreciative of the healthcare industry. Even though I don’t know if healthcare is the place for me, I learned a wealth of transferable skills to take wherever I go. Take the chance. You never know what you will learn.

Administrative Intern

May - August 2017 • Fort Lauderdale, FL

What I liked

I liked the exposure I got to the administrative side of the medical field. I got to work with the leaders of the Hospital such as CEO, CNO, Managers etc. It was a different experience and I was able to learn so much more from this than I had in school.

What I wish was different

There was not much I had wished to be different expect that the internship would be longer than 10 weeks.

Advice

I would share that reality is way different that what you read in books or what is taught at school. Although, you can educate yourself by reading many textbooks, you won't be able to completely learn until you put it into practice in the real world. It was okay to ask questions when you don't know and it is okay to take breaks when necessary. Throughout this internship, I was offered various opportunities as a platform for learning, but it was my duty to choose what was more vital and important rather than overwhelming myself with everything.

Administrative Intern

June - August 2017 • Coral Springs, FL

What I liked

I liked the ability to have autonomy and make a real difference in the organization. When searching for jobs, the ability to talk about how you created results for a company is invaluable! I was able to do this at my internship.

What I wish was different

I wish the recruiting process had been more clear. I did not know what role exactly I would be interviewing for.

Advice

Network Network Network! You will have the opportunity to meet a lot of leaders in your internship that will come to know your work ethic, quality of work, etc. Make sure you connect with as many people as you can!
