Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC) is a regional family-owned grocery business that operates stores in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas. BGC was founded by Wood T. Brookshire, who opened the company’s first store on Sept. 1, 1928, in downtown Tyler, Texas. Wood believed it was his calling to serve people through the grocery business and built BGC on a strong foundation of core values that continue to guide the company today.
Since 1928, BGC has grown to more than 180 stores under the Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, FRESH by Brookshire’s and Spring Market banners. BGC also operates three distribution facilities – two in Tyler and one in Monroe, Louisiana – and corporate offices in Tyler.
Following the founder’s example, BGC remains deeply committed to supporting our customers, communities and employees. The company proudly offers professional development and rich benefits, along with annual recognition programs to honor employees for years of service and outstanding performance. In 2019 BGC was recognized on Forbes magazine’s inaugural list of America’s Best-in-State Employers. In addition, BGC established its Partner Care Fund in 2018 to provide assistance to employees in need.
