Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI)

Los Angeles Creative Pop Intern

June - August 2021 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I loved the work environment! Everyone was very welcoming and open to answering questions about their specific roles and the music industry. Coffee with Executives helped me learn more about the roles of other SVPs and directors. The college to career workshops was extremely beneficial.

What I wish was different

Due to COVID, the internship was remote, but I would have enjoyed it in person.

Advice

I recommend setting up 1:1 with people from your department and other departments. It helped shape my positive experience because everyone wants you to learn more.

Working at BMI was a great experience! I got to meet multiple leaders from various departments and learned about their career paths, everyday job tasks and so much more. Everyone in this organisation wants to get to know you and cares about your personal progress.

What I wish was different

Due to covid-19 the internship was remote. I wish I had the opportunity to meet everyone at the office but I appreciate that everyone worked very hard to make this internship happen.

Advice

Networking! it is important to reach out to those leaders who seemed interesting to you and ask more questions about their career.

Customer Relations Intern

June - July 2020 • Nashville, TN

What I liked

I got to learn so much about the music industry. I woke up everyday excited to find out who I would get to learn from and what they would teach me. The BMI team did such a good job keeping all the interns connected, even through the pandemic. I really felt like I was a valued member of the team. This internship really solidified my confidence and my ability to work professionally.

What I wish was different

I did miss out on experiencing the office culture since we were all working from home. Of course, I would have loved to have been able to see all my teammates in person. But the program itself was great, and I know my supervisors were doing the best they could to help us feel connected.

Advice

Do not doubt yourself going into an internship. They hired you because they knew you had all the strengths (and weaknesses) that could help make their team the best. Trust your supervisors and yourself, and you will exceed their expectations.
