BrightEyes Alpaca Retreat

Digital Media Intern

May - October 2019 • Farmville, VA

What I liked

I loved that I was able to work for a non-profit as well as with animals. My schedule was flexible and mostly done remotely in the beginning of the internship. As a digital media student, I don't get a lot of experience in PR, marketing and event planning so this internship was perfect for exploring and learning new things within my major. Bill and Cindy Bergen are absolutely amazing and I was able to learn a lot from them about alpacas, running a business, planning for an event, etc.

What I wish was different

We had planned for me to create a video about the farm but time wise, we were unable to get to it. Luckily, I was able to still help with that video through my COMMLab group. Other than that, there isn't much I wish would have been different, this internship was perfect!

Advice

Go outside of your comfort zone and have an open mind. My whole experience was me learning how to do things I had never done before, like event planning (with the help of the owners) and it has given me new skills that I wouldn't have gotten in a classroom.
