I didn’t have that much experience before getting this job and I’ve learned a ton while being here (I manage Linux servers and didn’t know anything about Linux before), so don’t be afraid to apply for something that sounds out of your comfort zone

What I liked
The work environment is encouraging and there is a lot of room for growth in skills and abilities. The schedule is also personally set, so they worked with how I wanted/needed to work.
What I wish was different
There were sometimes where there wasn't much work, so plenty of days were boring.
Advice
Always be willing to take any form of a task offered because sitting around is boring and unfulfilling. If there hadn't been any projects or daily tasks, I most likely would not have stayed working.

Being a research assistant is thrilling because you get to be at the forefront of cutting-edge scientific research. I am currently working on a project that hopes to utilize new techniques to discover exoplanets.
What I wish was different
My only wish is that there were more assistants working on my project so that I could have other people to collaborate with on my work.
Advice
If you are a research assistant, you frequently have very flexible hours. You will enjoy your experience more if you create a schedule for yourself and stick to it throughout the week.

I was able to use my experience and life skills to encourage and lift up a lot of youth from different backgrounds.
What I wish was different
I wish the work schedule could be less demanding. It was easy to burn out because we were usually on our feet and/or interacting with others for 18.5 hours for 5 days in a row for weeks in a row.

Your most important duty is to make sure each kid feels loved and known.

I liked working in depth in SQL and Tableau. I liked having a boss who applied the agile methodology of project management so that we were able to get work done more efficiently.

I wish I was given more exposure to Informatica processes and how to create mappings for our data marts.

It would be nice to be funded, but the volunteer experience has been worth it so far.

Don't underestimate your own ability to learn new things. Also, academic humility (recognizing the need for guidance) is very productive in a professional setting such as this one.

Relaxing environment with real invested job experience. I get to learn many useful skills and work with great people in a job where you can see success and results.

The instruction and communication. We did things over multiple times and had to fix a lot of mistakes because there was a misunderstanding or miscommunication somewhere.
Advice
Pay close attention and use your wits/ logical abilities. Don't give up because you aren't sure, do something about it.
