Bridgestone Americas, Inc.

Manufacturing mech intern

January - July 2023 • La Vergne, TN

What I liked

Bridgestone was a very awesome internship due to the feeling you are not just an intern but more as another co-worker. Many of my projects were challenging and allowed me to build my technical and commutation skills in the engineering field. When every I hit a roadblock in my projects anyone was willing to give advice on the issues and present issues with my design to help better understand potential problems make sure the projects were successful. As well the chance to learn about anything having to do with the engineering field for instance fabrication process or installation process basically full ran of seeing a project go from paper to on the factory floor.

What I wish was different

Overall have nothing that I wish was different the only thing the communications with local and corporate HR is confusing due to the internship being ran through corporate.

Advice

Ask as many questions as possible and don’t hesitate to ask if you are confused and listen on anyone else’s projects or issues cause one day they could relate back to one of your projects. As my mentor said “There are two main rules to bring a good engineer. First, have a constant thirst for knowledge. Second, don’t make the same mistake twice.” -Kaleb Stephens

Mechanical Engineering Intern

January - May 2020 • Akron, OH

What I liked

Super friendly environment, many great co-workers and senior engineers willing to help out at anytime. The work was challenging, lots of CAD and occasional programming, but very engaging. Not once did I feel like an intern and was always treated with plenty of respect. Great learning experience.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been a few more interns to work with, I was the only one in my assigned department. However, this was very helpful for shadowing experienced individuals and pushed me to meet new people.

Advice

Come with an open mind, there is a lot of interdisciplinary work that is expected. Always be wiling to reach out and you'll find the help you need.

Intern

June - August 2017 • Tallahassee, FL

What I liked

Bridgestone's HR did an incredible job of selling company. They pay well, and truly care about your safety. They flew us to Nashville, showed us distribution centers and had various presentations and presenters come during the week for us (Although some boring). Additionally they flew me to Roanoke VA to see a specific facility for a few days (paying for all expenses). They continually checked in on us weekly with group intern meetings over phone.

What I wish was different

While I enjoyed my store location, it is important to know going into this that you need to be a self-starter if you are going to have a memorable experience. Often times I found myself with nothing to do, and having to find tasks or ask for more to do, which occasionally became frustrating.

Advice

Understand you will be in a shop getting dirty almost every day of the week. While the experiences of learning from technicians, outside sales reps, your service manager, and your store manager will be memorable and helpful, this internship will put you in the heat doing labor, not just in an office doing other tasks.
