Boy Scouts of America

Camp STEM Director

June - July 2019 • Pana, IL

What I liked

I loved getting some experience teaching in a full classroom, working out in nature for a good portion of the day, and building a sense of community in the fellow staff members.

Advice

Your fellow staff can really effect how the job goes: whether it's fun, or tedious, or contentious. I'm pretty okay with conflict resolution and community building, so it wasn't a large concern for me, but if you're someone who relies on working alone or by avoiding conflict, this isn't a job for you.

Scoutmaster

January 2018 • Norge, VA

What I liked

The best part of the job is helping a youth gain insight or develop value they'll carry with them for a lifetime.

What I wish was different

I wish my being Scoutmaster had been easier on my older two sons; I was often too busy with Troop stuff, which took time away from them.

Advice

It's only for an hour a week. ;)
