Was very applicable in what I want to do as my profession after I graduate.

What I wish was different

Advice

View an employment opportunity as an opportunity to not only earn income, but to also work on yourself (bettering yourself in commitment, trustworthiness, work ethic, punctuality, accountability, obedience, critical thinking, teamwork, management, and skill set development). Doing so will guarantee that you are well-regarded, and have integrity, respect, and favor, because your consistency will give you a good name. A good name, honor, and integrity through consistency is more valuable than any other asset one can acquire. It’s not about what you have as much as it is about what you do and how you do it. Good habits developed with little will still be good habits with much.

Mentor

July - August 2019 • Bowie, MD

What I liked

I like how organized the program was and how much everyone was involved with interacting with one another.

What I wish was different

I wish the students were able to get additional help when they went home to gain a better understanding of their work. Also if there were better opportunities for career growth maybe from a partnership with a company would have been nice.

Advice

Just have fun and stay professional.

Student Researcher

What I liked

I especially liked the travel opportunities to network and present research, as well as the field trip opportunities to new place I've never seen before such as the NIH for a graduate school fair and the African-American History Museum.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is to not be afraid to excel and ask for help. One of the things that helped me the most throughout my experience is trusting that the faculty/staff there to help genuinely cared about my experience and had my best interest at heart. Don't be afraid to ask questions and be open to learn new things.
