Bourne Partners

Investment Banking summer analyst

May - August 2021 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

Due to the niche focus of Bourne Partners, you gain great industry experience in the pharmaceutical, consumer health, and pharmaceutical service industries. Additionally, you gain valuable hands on deal experience due to the smaller size of Bourne Partners and gain exposure to all different stages of the deal timeline. You also develop close relationships with the associates, VP's, and MD's and are brought on immediately to contribute to the close-knit company culture.

What I wish was different

Would have liked to have had greater direction and structure for the final presentation as it's very open-ended and completely based on personal interest. Additionally, while modeling skills are taught briefly, more exposure and development of modeling skills would have been helpful.

Advice

Take the time to get to know a lot of the more senior MD's who have phenomenal industry expertise on both the investment banking and strategic capital side.

Summer Analyst

May - August 2021 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

Overall very positive experience. Team members weren't hesitant to get summer analysts involved in live deals. Gained all of the "check the box" experiences of a typical IB internship (learning valuation, excel, developing ppt presentations) alongside more unique experiences like evaluating potential investments for Bourne's strategic capital side and developing / presenting a summer long project.

What I wish was different

Would have enjoyed further developing modelling skills. While deal flow obviously limits the amount of valuation analysis for active deals, potentially having some kind of modelling test once a month could have been useful.

Advice

Always be eager to take on as much work as possible. Be curious and ask questions.
