Boston Beer Company

Packaging Engineering Intern

January - June 2022 • Allentown, PA

What I liked

I was able to see the application of new packaging material run on production lines, rather than creating and designing the package. I developed specification sheets to officially qualify new materials, as well as communicate with suppliers to develop and improve current designs. I made a lot of connections to suppliers, which is helping me find a full-time position.

What I wish was different

I wished I was included on projects more often. I often asked if I could be a part of newer projects or existing ones, however, because it wasn't on my "task list," I wasn't allowed to be a part of it. I did, however, have a lot of experience communicating with suppliers and coordinating trials and meetings, which helped.

Advice

Make friends with people beyond packaging. There is only one packaging engineer specifically, but multiple mechanical and process engineers. Making friends and connections with them are essential to not only letting line trials interrupt production, but helps make the day go by better.
