About Boise State Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

The Electrical & Computer Engineering Department at Boise State University is proud to offer a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program as well as a Master of Science and a Master of Engineering in ECE. Close ties to local and regional industry help us to connect students, faculty, industry, and community in a variety of quality, research-intensive academic programs.

The strength of our department isn’t confined to the classroom either. In addition to consistent excellence in graduate education, our students can participate on a variety of robust research teams. Currently, researchers are working on projects in amorphous electronics, CMOS photonics, electrical energy storage, wireless sensor networks, nanoionic electronics, neuromorphic interfaces, plasma devices, thermal-electric devices, animal biometrics, neuromorphic architectures, and compressive sensing, just to name a few.

In addition to the host of paid research opportunities we provide, we also fund our full-time doctoral students at 100%, which means we pay your tuition and health care costs as well as a salary of up to $27,000 per year.

Our culture of innovation fosters connection on an international scale, engaging the global research community as well as local industry. Currently, our researchers are pursuing interdisciplinary projects with federal and private partners including NASA Jet Propulsion Labs, Boeing, the Department of Defense, the National Science Foundation, Air Force Research Labs, and the Department of Energy.
