BMO Financial Group

North American Commercial Banking Strategy Intern

May - August 2022 • Toronto, Ontario

What I liked

Everyone was extremely nice and the mentoring was top-notch! Would definitely recommend as an employer for interns- they really care.

What I wish was different

If you're placed in the Toronto office you'll definitely have a LOT of other interns to network with at events downtown either paid for by BMO or on your own time. Wished interns at other offices in the East Coast and in the prairies could join.

Advice

Going into an internship for the first time, you really are unaware of how much you do not know. Be open and always ask others for tips to make the most out of your time.

What I liked

The BMO atmosphere is welcoming and supportive in all areas of the bank. I enjoyed the campus recruitment events which helped expand my networking skills and give me an opportunity to meet other interns throughout the various departments.

Advice

As a virtual internship, this experience taught me alot about time management and individual goals. I was directly responsible for my schedule and how I completed my tasks. In that sense, it was still required to follow a 8-5 work schedule.

What I liked

Being able to develop my sales skills in talking with customers and using instructive questioning to find them new and better products. Also the team I work with makes the job a lot of fun and les stressful

What I wish was different

Nothing

Advice

Always keep your personal life separate from work. Work stress should never meld with your day to day life. If you bring home the work stress it’s only going to make things worse.
