Human Resources Intern

June - August 2024 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

I enjoyed how they offered the flexibilty of working from home or from the office. This freedom helped me hold myself accountable. I also enjoyed how they had us do an Emergenetics assessmentto find our profile and how we work/behave compared to others.

What I wish was different

Something I wish that had been different would've been to ask more questions. I felt as if there were definitely points in my internship that I was going at my own pace of work. That may have been because there weren't any deadlines for me, but I wish I would've asked sooner to set boundaries and expectations. Who knows, maybe I worked on one project my whole internship when it was supposed to be done halfway through?

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience, would be to find your own balance when it comes to hybrid work. While a lot of interns enjoyed working from home, there was a group of us that kept coming in-person. Find what works best for you, it will help you learn about your work ethic for the future as well! <3

Data Intern

June 2024 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

The Summer Internship Program at BCBSNE is great for professional development of all interns. The program was very organized featuring weekly events to get to know the other interns and network. Everyone at BCBS was eager to help out when I needed it. Lastly, the work I was doing was impactful and I got so much exposure to what a real job in data looks like!

What I wish was different

Advice

Ask questions when they come to your mind, because you will be learning a lot of new information. Speak up when you feel the need and remember that everyone wants to help you succeed. Don't be afraid to try new things!

Account Management Intern

May 2023 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

Internship program at BCBSNE allows for growth in not only the department of internship but learning about other departments within the company. Company as a whole is a great place to work at. BCBSNE is dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion and offers opportunities for lateral and upward movement.

What I wish was different

While it was the first year of an intern in the sales and account management department, the program was good. There could have been improvements made in the mentorship within the department. There were moments where I felt like there was not enough to do. Each day is different in account management.

Advice

Be prepared to learn like you never have before. Insurance is expansive and there is a lot to know. Everyone at the company will tell you that it takes at least a year to learn insurance and it is ever changing and I would absolutely agree with that.

Date Intern

May 2023 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

I really enjoyed their professional environment and having the opportunity to get real world exposure to the industry. Additionally being able to work with a great team that valued my input and took the time to work things through with me every step of the way. Gaining insight into the growing field of data governance and its ongoing importance and impact within a professional business world.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more communication between departments in regard to ongoing projects, as somethings here and there weren't effectively enough communicated and caused some delays.

Advice

Have fun and take the opportunity to tag along in whatever sparks your interest.

What I liked

My experience working at BCBSNE was a very positive experience! I worked on several projects that contributed to the company directly, and I felt that I was fully part of the team when I was there. Actuarial Intern

May - August 2020 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

I loved being able to work with a diverse group of people to gain knowledge and insight into both general insurance concepts as well as Blue Cross Blue Shield products and processes. Even as a remote experience I was able to interact with people from all over the organization and work together on projects with my fellow interns.

What I wish was different

I wish the opportunity had been in-person, but there was of course nothing that could have been done about that.

Advice

If the internship is remote again in the future, put work into meeting more coworkers. It's a bit harder to get to know people virtually, but it's worth it to reach out and make more connections!

Data Analytics Intern

June 2020 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

I love how open and willing the members of my team have been to help me. There have been numerous occasions when someone has dropped everything to meet with me and help me learn and figure things out.

What I wish was different

My one wish was that I could have gone into the office.

Advice

Reach out. If you need help, if there is someone you want to talk to, if there is a department you want to learn more about, reach out. No one can read your mind, so if there is something you are curious about, just ask, people want to help you.
