Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts

Actuarial and analytics intern

June - August 2022 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I liked that I had the opportunity to work on multiple projects that had a real impact, and that I had the option to work remotely.

What I wish was different

I would have liked it if some of the software I had used was pre-configured so I could get right into the work. However, it was a rather easy fix.

Advice

The most valuable thing you can bring to the table is inquisition and a desire to learn.

What I liked

Very supportive and compassionate culture. Everyone who works here is extremely intelligent and interested in professional development and mentorship. Great experience overall!!

What I wish was different

The transparency of the full-time return offer process

Advice

It is okay to not have solid programming experience or actuarial courses completed as you learn a lot on the job and will have many different opportunities to attend workshops or learn from your team

Medical Product Support Intern

June - August 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I liked the structured internship program and project at the end of the summer. I had a mentor throughout the summer who was working with me to make sure that I accomplished my goals for what I wanted to get out of the internship program. I also loved being able to meet people in different business areas and learn more about the company as a whole.

What I wish was different

Advice

Take advantage of the mentorship program.

Procurement Intern

June - August 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

This was my second year interning for BCBSMA in the same position. I had the opportunity to work in a team environment often and enjoyed the work I did. The program was structured with many intern events as well as a summer long intern group presentation. This was great because it helped me form valuable connections with other interns and full time employees.

What I wish was different

Because it was a structured program I had to attend some training sessions and full day presentations that were very similar to the one's I attended last summer. It would've probably benefited by just working those days, but overall there were not many things that I wish had been different.

Advice

Make sure to reach out to people and meet as many people as you can, and don't be afraid to ask questions. You're not expected to know everything as an intern, so it will be a far more productive and far less stressful experience if you are open and willing to ask for further clarification on tasks.
