BJs Restaurants and Brewhouse

Restaurant Host/Hostess

May - September 2019 • Hillsboro, OR

What I liked

My managers were nice, and actually did a lot to be involved and help unlike lazy managers I've had in the past. Also most of my coworkers were nice, and I got a free meal every shift.

What I wish was different

Advice

Don't work customer service unless you have patients to deal with rude people.

Restaurant Hostess

May - August 2019 • Huntington Beach, CA

What I liked

I liked having a structure to my summer days, going into work made for a sure thing I had to do multiple days a week. I also liked being able to build my work experience since this was my first ever official job. I enjoyed my coworkers as well.

What I wish was different

I wish management had been a little more formal as there was a lot of favoritism with hours and a couple of the managers seemed to not be able to separate their emotions from their job. I also did not get scheduled set end times for my shifts so I wish I would have been given set hours instead of just start times.

Advice

Management is a HUGE part of whether or not a job will be enjoyable, tolerable, or terrible so if you have the option to speak to someone before hand about what he management is really like at a job, do so.

Restaurant Host/Hostess

May - August 2019 • Sterling Heights, MI

What I liked

The coworkers were very nice and friendly. It truly was like a second family and made me enjoy my first job so much. Not to mention the food was amazing and I got a free meal every shift which was amazing.

What I wish was different

I wish all of the managers had the same expectations/ way of doing things. Some managers wouldn’t be strict about things such as what I wore, or make me say things exactly how they want it. Other managers were not as strict about it and were more friendly to me.

Advice

A great first job and gave me lots of experience in the restaurant industry.

Restaurant Host/Hostess

June - August 2018 • Torrance, CA

What I liked

I liked the environment of the work place. The employees were very welcoming and fun to work with. Overall, I have been a customer of Bj's for years so having the opportunity to work there was amazing.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have started working there a lot earlier and longer; however I needed to come back to school at Chico State.

Advice

I would advise that people become accustomed to standing on their feet for long periods of time, have patience, and be able to work in a timely manner if they choose to work at this establishment.
